PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE June 2009
June 2009
This is my last President’s letter as your chapter President, with my two consecutive one year terms coming to an end on June 30, 2009. My term as Region President also comes to an end at the same time, but I continue to serve on the Institute board for at least another year as a Director for the Northeast Region. As heartfelt as my first letter back in September 2007 was, this one is so much more. I have had the absolute pleasure of serving you, our members, for the last two years as your President, but also in the year’s prior as your Secretary and many other duties.
Words can not begin to express the feelings that I have when thinking of the people that I have met, the lessons that I have learned, and the skills that I have developed both professionally and personally during these terms. I am proud to say that I am your President, and prouder still to say on July 1, 2009 that I was your President. Thank you for all of your support throughout the years, we the board could not have done it without one another or the members.
I do plan on staying very involved as our new leader, Linton D. Stables III, takes the seat as President on July 1, 2009. I will remain on the board as Immediate Past President as well as other roles on the committee level, so do not think you are getting rid of me just yet!
Our May chapter meeting took place on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Annie Moore’s restaurant and yet again was very well attended with over 50 people!
Our program, Garden Roof Planning presented by Matthew Carr of American Hydrotech. This program introduces the many benefits provided by garden roofs. Drawing on 30 years of experience in Europe, garden roofs have shown to aid in the reduction of urban heat islands, improve storm water management, protect roofing membranes, and increase the amount of usable space. The course reviews typical components and installation methods of a garden roof.
Our annual golf outing is approaching quickly, please join us on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Van Cortlandt Golf Course in the Bronx, NY… America’s Oldest Public Golf Course, which opened in 1895! The chapter continues to sell, but still has available Project Resource Manuals and Masterformat 2004 Books for sale at the chapter’s cost, which is ten percent lower than purchasing it through the institute. Please contact any of the board members for your copies today!
If you are interested in becoming part of the leadership of our striving chapter please do not hesitate to contact me or any of our board members. I can not express enough what a great organization, events, and friends have come from our membership and leadership roles with CSI, and you are all welcome to join us.
The chapter continues its GREEN efforts by not sending out hard copies of our newsletter, The Addendum, unless otherwise requested. We are also always looking for new and interesting articles for our newsletter, The Addendum. For those of you that would like to contribute to or would like to obtain a hard copy, please make your submissions and requests to our Editor, Russ Carpenter at massbldr@aol.com.
Don’t forget to RSVP! We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Annie Moore’s Restaurant located at 50 East 43rd Street between Madison and Vanderbilt Avenues, conveniently located just outside of Grand Central Terminal!

Please bring a friend, a co-worker or both - to meet the Metropolitan New York Chapter board and committee members! Our board and committees consists of architects, specification consultants, designers, architectural, product and manufacturer’s representatives, and others - from every aspect of the construction industry!
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can assist you in any way at stobias@assaabloydss.com. As always, we more than welcome your suggestions, input, and involvement with helping to make a difference with chapter education and the events we offer.
My final words, which I have and will continue to say it daily, if you are not involved with the chapter leadership in some capacity, you have no idea what you are missing out on… don’t wait to be asked, raise your hand (or make a call, or send an email, or approach someone at a meeting) and get involved…
Again, thank you all for allowing me to serve.
With very warm regards,

Scott J. Tobias, AHC, CSI, CDT
